RADON TESTING

Radon is a cancer causing radioactive gas. You cannot see, smell, or taste radon, but it may be present in your home. The Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. Scientific studies of radon exposure indicate that children may be more sensitive to radon.

Should you test for radon?

Testing is the only way to know the radon level of a home. There are no immediate symptoms that will alert you to the presence of radon. It typically takes years of exposure before any problems surface. It is estimated that 30% of homes in Utah have over the EPA action guideline limit of 4 pCi/l.

You can add a radon test to your home inspection for $100. Results are available in approximately 48 hours.

Can radon be remedied?

If a property has high concentrations of radon there are ways to reduce it to acceptable levels with the service provided by a radon mitigation professional. It is important for the home buyer to know whether radon is present before the due diligence deadline as mitigation can be costly with pricing starting at over $1000.

MOLD TESTING

METH TESTING

Meth is a synthetic drug that affects the central nervous system. It is commonly manufactured in home laboratories, mixing various amphetamines and dangerous chemicals. The production of meth leaves these home labs saturated with toxic waste that can cause health issues including respiratory (breathing) problems, skin and eye irritation, headaches, nausea, and dizziness.

Should you test for meth?

The Utah Department of Health recommends testing for meth before all property purchases as it is a dangerous toxin and the clean up can cost over 50 times the price of the test.

You can test for meth with your home inspection for $125. Results are available in 2 business days.

Can meth be remedied?

It’s possible to clean a meth house. In fact, if the house tests over a certain threshold you are required to hire a state certified meth cleaning specialist to replace all of the carpet, completely repaint, and replace or clean the ducting and vents

Mold is a fungus that when present in large quantities, can present a health hazard to humans, potentially causing allergic reactions and respiratory problems. If you or someone in your family has serious allergies, if there is evidence of moisture, or if it smells like mold, you should order mold testing.
